As with the Children's Section of our shop, these titles reflect the very best of contemporary writing for children from babies up to young adults. What is reassuring—to us as well as you—is that so many of the books we stock end up on the shortlists of the many children's book awards including: The CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Childrens Book Awards; The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize; The Roald Dahl Funny Prize; The Red House Children's Book Award; The Blue Peter Book Awards; and the Booktrust Early Years Awards and Teenage Prize.
There is a rich and rewarding stream of new writers and illustrators appearing every year and the choice has never been better with some exceptional talents emerging: Catherine Rayner and Emily Gravett, whose picture books are charming and inventive, Neil Gaiman (of Coraline fame) whose sophisticated work appeals to older children and adults, and a whole raft of talented fiction writers including Patrick Ness, Mal Peet, Siobhan Dowd, Meg Rosoff and local author Anthony McGowan. Previous award winners also feature among the older titles we sell, with books that continue to enthrall young readers.
